Grammar
Offers: Shall I…? Would you like me to…?
To offer help we can say: Shall I open the door for you? Would you like me to carry your bag? Let me help you. I can show you the way. These are polite and friendly.
To accept: Yes, please. That’s very kind of you. To refuse politely: No, thank you, I’m fine. It’s OK, I can do it.
Shall I open the door for you?
Would you like me to carry your bag?
Let me help you with that.
No, thank you. I’m fine.
Asking for help: Would you mind…?
To ask for a favour, we use Could you…? or Would you mind + -ing? Could you help me, please? Would you mind opening the window?
Careful: after “Would you mind” we use the -ing form. Answer “No, not at all” or “Of course not” to agree. “Sorry, I’d rather not” if you don’t want to.
Could you help me with this form, please?
Would you mind opening the window?
Would you mind repeating that?
No, not at all. I’ll do it now.
Thanking and replying
Ways to say thank you: Thank you very much. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. That’s very kind of you. I’m very grateful.
Ways to reply: You’re welcome. No problem. My pleasure. Don’t mention it. Any time!
Thank you very much for your help.

No problem. Any time!
