What is ikigai, and can it help you choose a job?
Ikigai is a Japanese word. It means “a reason to get up in the morning”.
Many people explain it with four circles: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs and what you can be paid for. The place where the circles meet is your ikigai.
In Japan, ikigai can be small: a hobby, a garden, time with family. It does not have to be a job.
But the idea can help you think about work. Ask yourself: Do I enjoy it? Am I good at it? Is it useful? Can I earn money from it?
So, can ikigai help you choose a job? Many people say yes, because it helps them ask good questions about their life. What is your ikigai?
