Why is pizza from Italy so famous?

Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the world. People in many countries love it, but it comes from Naples, in Italy. People in Naples made flat bread with different toppings for a long time. Later, they began to put tomatoes on it, and the modern pizza was born.

There is a famous story about the "Margherita" pizza. People say that in 1889 a cook made a pizza for Queen Margherita. It had tomato, white cheese and green basil, the colours of the Italian flag. Historians say that this is a nice story, but they do not know if it is completely true.

In 2017, UNESCO put the art of the Neapolitan pizza maker on a list of special traditions. The cooks in Naples make the dough by hand and bake the pizza in a very hot oven for one or two minutes.

Today people like pizza in every country. Some people like thin pizza, and some like thick pizza. Some people love mushrooms on pizza, but other people don't like them.
