Why do some people sleep after lunch?

Why do some people sleep after lunch? Many of us feel sleepy in the afternoon. It is normal. The body has a natural low point in the middle of the day, and a big lunch can make us more tired. Scientists say that a short nap of ten or twenty minutes can give you energy.

In some countries, for example in Spain, Greece and Mexico, there is a tradition called the siesta. People often go home for lunch, and they rest. Shops usually close in the afternoon, and then they open again in the evening. Today many people in Spain do not have a siesta every day, because they often work in offices with a short break.

In China, many people have a short rest after lunch too. In some offices and schools, people sometimes put their heads on the desk for a few minutes.

Do you have a nap? Some people always have one, some people sometimes have one, and some people never have one.
